Suddenly, in the scorched wilderness, the hungry for fuel Max chances upon a small oil refinery; however, the place is under siege by Lord Humungus' barbarian horde of biker warlords, hell-bent on destruction and mayhem.

Now, to get his hands on as much gas as he can carry, "Mad" Max will have to provide the defenceless community with a powerful truck to transport the gasoline to safety; nevertheless, this is easier said than done.

Is Max, the battle-scarred Road Warrior, up to the task? Written by Nick Riganas. For those who have not seen any of the Max Max films, do yourself a favor and get to your local rental store.

Starring a young Mel Gibson, who plays the title character, Max, this film is practically at the pinnacle of action films, surpassed only by a few select others.

But moving on, this movie quite simply rocks! The setting is a post-apocalyptic world where fuel is hard to come by and so is human life, for that matter.

Max, having moved on from tragedy in the first film, you really shouldn't be reading this if you haven't seen the first one has now become a Road Warrior, wandering the desert landscapes aimlessly.

He eventually finds a small, surviving settlement with a surplus of fuel. However, the town is repeatedly terrorized by a gang of outlaw motorcyclists, led by Lord Humungus.

Through a series of staggering events, Max becomes involved with the town's efforts to finally rid themselves of the biker gang.

The performances are good enough to propel the film forward and Mel Gibson does a great job reprising the role he made famous in the first installment.

The embittered Max and the hopefuls in the town play well off each other and bring dramatic character interaction, uncommon for many present action films.

But of course, the film's scenes of brilliance arrive in the form of its action sequences. The action is choreographed well and Max is unrelenting as are the members of the biker gang.

The ending sequence is one of the most memorable action portions I have ever seen in any film, past or present. The music played throughout balances and abets the action sequences, adding a furious intensity.

Even scenes with the motorcycle gang feature hard-metal rock that suits the tone of the film well.

Needless to say, the film seriously delivers all the way to the finish line. The shots of the post-apocalyptic world are frightening and barren, giving a glimpse into what could be.

Panoramic shots of the wasteland are featured and even signs of hope are doled out by the camera crew. Of course, this film's true merit will always be its action but where other action films fail with sloppy camera work and boring characters and plot lines, Mad Max 2 succeeds, giving the great journey of a debilitated man and a secluded group.

And through all these components, Max Max 2 rises above the rest of the films in the action genre. Ultimately, this film is one of the best action films of all time.

It doesn't place all its eggs in that basket, mind you; it features memorable characters, a well-developed setting, and an incredible story.

It belongs to a select list of films where a sequel outdoes the predecessor. Max Max 2 is better than the first in every way and stands out on its own as an exceptional action film.

Spoilers follow, so if you haven't watched this yet, do please stop reading. The symbolism throughout: the distant raven's cry heard as Max enters each scene, foretelling the death which hollowed him in the past, and follows him thereafter.

The beautiful, nuanced characters found on all sides of the conflict: the idealistic Pappagallo who leads the motley refinery crew, preaching hope and humanity all while being surrounded by death and futility; the opportunistic Gyro Captain who survives the wasteland through cunning and killing while exuding insanity from every pore, but who ultimately shines through as perhaps the most sane individual there; and perhaps the most brilliantly complex villain in non-"Batman" film history, The Humungus, a muscle-bound behemoth who lords over a band of ruthless killers yet quotes 18th century German poetry in German , repeatedly shows patience and practical thinking in achieving his goal, and carries around an immaculate revolver in a case filled with military medals from numerous nations.

Plus of course the scene-stealing dog named "Dog" , who was rescued from a local animal shelter, trained for this film, and then retired to a life of luxury with one of the cameramen.

This is barely even scraping the surface. I've seen very convincing arguments that the entire story was a modern interpretation of ancient Greek tragedy Miller's parents were Greek immigrants , lengthy commentaries on how avant garde the film was in casting women, homosexuals, and physically handicapped persons in strong roles without dwelling on doing it , and of course numerous discussions on the political and environmental criticisms neatly wrapped into the back story of the picture again, without being in-your-face about it.

In short, which truthfully would have been two paragraphs ago, this is so much more than just the quintessential post-apocalyptic action thriller, as evidenced by the numerous "best of" lists it continues to find itself on.

This is a testament to exactly what a talented visionary with a very limited budget is capable of producing, and a film which rewrote its genre and redefined exactly what a "hero" can be in movies.

Yeah, this is an old movie. It shows. But you know what? With the "Fast and Furious" sequels, the producers seem to believe things can only get better if the stunts get more ridiculous and impossible.

The best "Fast and Furious" film to me is still the first one. You can actually tell there is a guy hanging off the side of a truck.

The stunts are real. They do not rely on computer graphics. This is what they do in "The Road Warrior" for the entire film.

Glad I decided to buy it. The picture is vastly superior. Worth the upgrade. My biggest complaint is that the movie starts with "Mad Max 2" as the title instead of "The Road Warrior," which is what I saw it as when it was in theaters in the US.

Wish there was a choice, but not a "deal-breaker" by any means. Also, it's divided up into only around ten scenes, so it's a bit harder to navigate.

But overall the improvement over the DVD is going to force me to upgrade the other two movies in the trilogy.

A movie about a crazy man driving around really fast and being very violent about it. But enough about Mel Gibson! It is unique in its approach and its story.

Its heroes and villains die in droves, it has just the right amount of motivation for everyone involved, and it has a twist at the end that ties up the story neatly at the end.

If you haven't watched it yet; get it, watch it, and enjoy the majesty of Mel Gibson living off gasoline fumes, for the second time!

The first Road Warrior movie Mad Max was great, and became a cult classic, but Mad Max 2 was the one that really broke into the international market and made the series famous.

The film like all the rest is a dystopian tale set in a future Australia. The intro says that two great powers went to war and destroyed the Earth.

In the first movie there was still some civilization left as Max Mel Gibson was a policeman. By the second film that had all disappeared and gangs and loners had taken over everything seeking to exploit and kill the weak.

The opening scene shows that this will be a fast paced, action packed story as Max is being chased by a gang along the highway in a bunch of supped up cars and a motorcycle.

Max then comes across the Gryo Captain Bruce Spence who tells him of a community where they are refining gasoline. They have a plan to escape to a better place but a gang has their camp under siege.

The movie is about whether Max can help the camp escape and live another day. The differences between the two sides are made very stark.

The gang wears all black. The people in the camp where white. The over the top costumes. The story of a struggle for survival. The cars and action still resonate to this day.

Please try again. This is genuinely very good not brilliant release of an iconic film. Like the film this blu-ray edition is lean and does everything it needs to excellently.

I won't review the actual film as there are better sites and places to do that. For me, if you love the Max franchise and haven't got this already then you need to buy it or one of the boxsets that incorporate it.

The missing star is due to a lack of extras on this release that I believe this film deserves. One person found this helpful. It's very hard to say which I prefer because they are both so different.

Mad Max was raw, story driven drama, with great action. Yet Road Warrior zooms way into the future and gives us a post apocalyptic nightmare, in an amazingly polished production.

Great action, great set pieces and a monster vision. Okay I've decided, The Road Warrior just edges it. But it's a close call because they are so different, so it's not like comparing say Godfather parts I and II.

This is up there, along with Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and Commando as one of the very best action movies ever made and probably one of the best sequels ever.

Mad Max was good but this really ramps it up. Max is the epitome of 'Hard' - clad from head to toe in leather and steel and armed with a sawn off, double barrelled shotgun, he roams the wastelands in the now iconic black V8 Interceptor.

A monster of a car, armed with a self destruct device and a supercharger to leave the opposition standing - this is Max's main weapon and bringer of Death to the enemy.

The plot is straightforward and really is an excuse to enjoy the absolute orgy of violence and mayhem that ensues for 90 minutes!

Taglines: Mad Max meets the challenge! Edit Did You Know? Trivia Max is known for always sporting a sawed off double barrel shotgun in all Mad Max installments.

With the exception of the first two films where Max is seen to be carrying the same model weapon, the shotgun changes model and style from movie to movie.

By the end of this film, after the final collision between Max and Humungus which led to Wez being crushed while trying to take away Max's shotgun from the Feral Kid, in the aftermath of the resulting collision Wez's hand can be seen for a brief moment from under the twisted metal of the crash to still be holding onto the shotgun.

Though not shown clearly within the film, Max is shown in production stills of his last moments of the film standing on the road to have taken back his shotgun as it is holstered by his side.

Though it is unclear how much if any damage it may have sustained as a result of the collision. This may also be the reason why Max is not using the same shotgun come Beyond Thunderdome.

Goofs After Max rolls his car, Toadie checks the tanks and declares them full. He then opens the cap and a thin stream of liquid pours out.

In the next shot of Toadie, the liquid quickly slows to a dribble and then stops altogether. Quotes [ first lines ] Narrator : My life fades.

The plot is straightforward and really is an excuse to enjoy the absolute orgy of violence and mayhem that ensues for 90 minutes!

Max goes head to head with the minions of the terrifying Lord Humungous and his Chief Warlord Wez - These are truly fearsome warriors, clad like Max in leather and iron and armed to the teeth with crossbows, blades, morning stars and gas propelled arrow guns and a vast arsenal of cars, bikes and dune buggys.

Some of these guys are barely human with their berserker tactics, utter contempt for human life and total bloodlust.

Max, mostly for selfish reasons, allies himself with a compound of 'normal' people who find their desert fortress under perpetual siege from the Humungous and his monstrous horde.

The decent folk have their own oil facility to make fuel which is now the single rarest commodity on earth - and the mohican army wants it - and arent willing to trade!

In the ensuing battles, bodies are broken, impaled, crushed, and pulped in the bloodiest car chases ever seen on screen.

Woman are graphically raped, fingers are severed and heads are decapitated courtesy of Max's shotgun.

Torture and Terror are the currency here! The film culminates in an amazing 15 odd minute chase whereby Max in charge of a massive Mack Truck is pursued by the Humungous and the full force of his army in all manner of deadly pursuit vehicles.

The stunt work and special effects pre CGI are jaw-dropping and its a miracle no stunt men lost their lives! Performances are effective, and Mel Gibson should never forget his roots!

This is action cinema at its best! Also the score by Brian May is terrific - shades of Holst's Mars - very warlike!

The locations are breathtaking filmed at Broken Hill and are the uncredited cast member. Please George Miller!!! Load more international reviews.

A very good sequel to Mad Max, good storyline and plenty of action, but in my opinion the original Mad Max film [ which I have watched about a dozen times] still has the edge as a cult movie.

Great film. I enjoyed it on dvd I now enjoy it on blue ray. Typical Mad Max. A fantastic hell chase of a joyride through cinema that only improves with age.

I remember first seeing this as a young teenager. I've viewed it many times since over the course of the years and with each viewing it only seems to get better.

The best of an outstanding trilogy that is up there with the Eastwood "Man with no name" movies.

The blu ray is absolutely what you would wish for. A must have for every collector. Another great performance from Mel Gibson as Mad Max.

I just love his character and have watched this film a few times now, and don't get bored anywhere in the film. Recommend this film.
